Corn (maize) originates from Mexico, and has spread quickly because of its many uses. Today, sweet corn is known as a useful plant in human and animal diets. With an annual worldwide harvest of over 800 million tons, it is the mostly cultivated type of grain (Faostat, 2011).
During the past years, maize has played an important role in energy, specifically the production of maize silage as a biological gas substrate, and in the production of bio fuels. It can also be used as a raw product for bio plastics.
